Your attitude matters

When I was little, my dad took me and my elder sister to his office on a Saturday. He wanted to sort out some things at work. So to keep us busy he opened a document for us on his computer in which the 26 English alphabets and a bit of mathematics were used to address a topic. Ask me what it was about, "what will give you 100% in life?".

English alphabets and corresponding numbers

Then different options where given for us to calculate:

FAME ->> 6+1+13+5= 25

LOVE ->> 12+15+22+5= 54

WEALTH ->> 23+5+1+12+20+8= 69

MONEY ->> 13+15+14+5+25= 72

BEAUTY ->> 2+5+1+21+20+25= 74

WISDOM ->> 23+9+19+4+15+13=83

EDUCATION->> 5+4+21+3+1+20+9+15+14=92

HARDWORK->> 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11= 98

ATTITUDE ->> 1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5= 100

Initially I thought the various options will give 100%, not that they are not important, they are but then your attitude will determine whether these other things will be to your advantage. I never forgot the lesson I learnt that day. Your attitude to people around you and situations of life goes a long way in shaping your life.

You can't have the right attitude or mindset when your mind is not yet renewed or transformed. That's where having the mind of Christ comes in. You won't feel disadvantaged no matter the circumstance you where born into or you are in right now because you have an advantage which is Jesus.

Mentorship

One thing I have noticed that is expedient for growth in every sphere of life is mentorship and this can come in different forms. You can never under estimate the power one a man who has people to learn from and climb on their shoulders. I was in a workshop recently and the speakers even though didn't meet the previous speakers session ended up with the same point which is "to rise to the peak in life we need a guide someone who has more experience or expertise in our desire field". I find this to be very true, many are gifted with so much energy but are finding it hard to rise beyond where they are and several mistakes are made because there is no oversight. Photo credit: istockphoto.com Taking examples from the world, I see musicians, actors, researchers, ministers, and so on, who came to limelight because they had a mentor: someone to guide them, someone they can leverage on their platform or reputation or learn from. Even in vocations, it is a common place for an a...

Planted or Buried?

I saw a big banner with the words "Planted or Buried?" while on the move. Let's take a quick look at the difference between burying and planting something. To bury according to the Oxford Dictionary means to put or hide underground, it can also mean to cover (someone or something) completely. To plant according to Merriam-Webster dictionary means to put or set in the ground for growth , to set or sow with seeds or plants. In life, it can be easy to confuse being buried and being planted as they may appear similar at first glance. However, with time, it becomes clear that there is a distinct difference between the two. The beauty of these definitions lies in the fact that planting is intended to bring forth growth and new beginnings, even though it begins with being placed and covered. On the other hand, burying is intended to bring about decay or complete death. Planted or buried? When something is planted, it suggests that it still has a purpose and that a process of gro...
