What do you see?

Sight is essential; it is not limited to the physical eyes because we have been given the gift of imagination, allowing us to create things beyond our capacity. Imagination has resulted in the creation of films, books, inventions and various types of artworks. We have no limit to how far we can think.

"Imagination involves creating a mental image of something that is not present for your senses to detect, or even something that isn’t out there in reality somewhere. Imagination is one of the key abilities that make us human". This statement was taken from a blog post by neuroscientist Andrey Vyshedskiy, whose discussion of imagination I found to be fascinating.

What do you see?

This saying has stuck with me: "You become what you behold consistently". That is the purpose of examples, role models, and mentors. Helping us to become but then leaving us to forge our own paths and become original copies rather than copycats.

Imagination is the hand that reaches out to the unseen and brings it closer, just like faith. It's one thing to know that we can use our imagination to create things; it's quite another to pay attention to our lenses. This may be affected by factors like:

1. Environment/background: Our surroundings and past frequently paint an image for us of what is and is not feasible based on the experiences, errors, and outcomes of others. Nobody would have imagined that it was conceivable to fly a metal in the air. If it were to be in some regions, the lack of resources would have prevented them.

2. Contents we consume: This could be anything we see, hear, or read. The main entrances via which information enters our bodies are the eyes, ears, and other senses.

3. Personality/traits: Our beliefs, habits, and identity shape the way we see the world and the chances it presents. Everything is teachable. Adaptability leads to a personality mix. An introvert can interface between being an active talker and being reserved; the same is true for someone who is perfectionistic or pessimistic. We have the capacity to improve upon ourselves.

The best way to overcome these challenges is to read vast in your area of interest, interact with creative minds and watch videos of people who have dared the impossible. A book that has influenced my life and will continue to influence my life is the Bible. It is filled with incredible tales of excellence and the impossible made possible. The world is ready for that which you are about to birth, push further, do not give up.

Cheers to a visionary you.

Mentorship

One thing I have noticed that is expedient for growth in every sphere of life is mentorship and this can come in different forms. You can never under estimate the power one a man who has people to learn from and climb on their shoulders. I was in a workshop recently and the speakers even though didn't meet the previous speakers session ended up with the same point which is "to rise to the peak in life we need a guide someone who has more experience or expertise in our desire field". I find this to be very true, many are gifted with so much energy but are finding it hard to rise beyond where they are and several mistakes are made because there is no oversight. Photo credit: istockphoto.com Taking examples from the world, I see musicians, actors, researchers, ministers, and so on, who came to limelight because they had a mentor: someone to guide them, someone they can leverage on their platform or reputation or learn from. Even in vocations, it is a common place for an a...

Planted or Buried?

I saw a big banner with the words "Planted or Buried?" while on the move. Let's take a quick look at the difference between burying and planting something. To bury according to the Oxford Dictionary means to put or hide underground, it can also mean to cover (someone or something) completely. To plant according to Merriam-Webster dictionary means to put or set in the ground for growth , to set or sow with seeds or plants. In life, it can be easy to confuse being buried and being planted as they may appear similar at first glance. However, with time, it becomes clear that there is a distinct difference between the two. The beauty of these definitions lies in the fact that planting is intended to bring forth growth and new beginnings, even though it begins with being placed and covered. On the other hand, burying is intended to bring about decay or complete death. Planted or buried? When something is planted, it suggests that it still has a purpose and that a process of gro...
