Why friendship?

"If you haven't read my post on Lifeship, I recommend you to read it. Among the different types of ships on our Lifeship is Friendship. Have you ever wondered how people with different backgrounds and ideologies can enjoy each other's company or share the same interests?" The backbone of every relationship is friendship. What then is friendship? Britannica defines it as a state of enduring affection, esteem, intimacy, and trust between two people. Although some have been hurt by friends, it can be discouraging. I have enjoyed amazing friendships with people, many have and you can but it also starts with you becoming a good friend. Image by katemangostar (Freepik ) I see myself as someone who is not an expert, but rather as someone who is continuously learning. Here are some insights from my own experiences and from observing other people's lives that I believe are important for fostering strong and lasting friendships. Building anything in life, including friendsh...

Never stop learning

I went for a visit and my two nephews were watching cartoons and one of them played Monster University, with the way he was talking I knew he had watched it several times so I didn't want him to play it because of the monster factor but he did after all. I have also seen it before but it has been long and was not sure if I completed watching the first time. So we had an Easter conference in church early this year and something struck me while the preacher was talking, the cartoon painted the picture of what had been illustrated. It talked about how we have received so much by redemption and sacrifice of Jesus but we need to stay in the place of studying the word (Eating and chewing the word till it becomes life) and the place of prayer. Many spend 3-6 hours praying but it is not birthed from the place of studying the word to rightly apply the truth. Some things need obedience, while some need developing your skills, and some require building character and renewing your mindset.  So...

A new season!

It is not too late to welcome you into the new year. Welcome to 2024; it's great to have you on board. I hope you made good use of 2023; I know some of us started new jobs, travelled outside of our country, got married, bought our first car/house, made our first million, or gave birth. I know numerous things can be mentioned; however, the first thing to do is to thank God for life. Last December, I dedicated the entire month to a 31-day gratitude challenge. It was a beautiful one, reflecting on everything the Lord had done for me throughout the year. When we count our blessings, we realize there is much to be grateful for. The ride was not without its challenges, but it was worthwhile because each new day presented an opportunity to improve and learn new things. Image by bearfotos on Freepik You may not have achieved all of your goals, but you can start the year on a positive note. Try something new this year; despite my hectic schedule last year, I learned two foreign languages: F...

What do you see?

Sight is essential; it is not limited to the physical eyes because we have been given the gift of imagination, allowing us to create things beyond our capacity. Imagination has resulted in the creation of films, books, inventions and various types of artworks. We have no limit to how far we can think. "Imagination involves creating a mental image of something that is not present for your senses to detect, or even something that isn’t out there in reality somewhere. Imagination is one of the key abilities that make us human". This statement was taken from a blog post by neuroscientist Andrey Vyshedskiy, whose discussion of imagination I found to be fascinating. This saying has stuck with me: "You become what you behold consistently". That is the purpose of examples, role models, and mentors. Helping us to become but then leaving us to forge our own paths and become original copies rather than copycats. Imagination is the hand that reaches out to the unseen and brings...

Planted or Buried?

I saw a big banner with the words "Planted or Buried?" while on the move. Let's take a quick look at the difference between burying and planting something. To bury according to the Oxford Dictionary means to put or hide underground, it can also mean to cover (someone or something) completely. To plant according to Merriam-Webster dictionary means to put or set in the ground for growth , to set or sow with seeds or plants. In life, it can be easy to confuse being buried and being planted as they may appear similar at first glance. However, with time, it becomes clear that there is a distinct difference between the two. The beauty of these definitions lies in the fact that planting is intended to bring forth growth and new beginnings, even though it begins with being placed and covered. On the other hand, burying is intended to bring about decay or complete death. Planted or buried? When something is planted, it suggests that it still has a purpose and that a process of gro...

The shoe

A conversation to learn from. Fadekemi: What are you wearing? (It seemed like an unlikely question to ask). Rose: But what exactly is your point for asking, can't you see? Fadekemi: I can see but your shoe doesn't match your cloth neither does it fit the occasion. Rose: That's what I feel like wearing, I am not ready to go through the stress of changing. Fadekemi: I really can't believe you are actually saying that after the stress we went through getting you a new shoe. Rose: I'm sorry, you know I am used to this old shoe and as much as I try I get easily tempted even when I know it doesn't fit me anymore or the clothes am wearing... Like Rose, we at times get caught up in the web of ease and comfort that we start settling for less or the old way of doing things. We have been given a new life to live and function. There is every need for us to constantly ask for grace to stay in God's way and plan for us. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT): This means that anyone who...
